Dr. Jeffery Dorociak is fascinated with the workings of the human body but he did not start out to be a physician. In fact, he earned a B.S. in physical education as well as a master’s degree in exercise physiology and a Ph.D. in exercise physiology measurements and evaluation, working in that field for a number of years before deciding to return to school, this time to earn his M.D. at the Medical University of South Carolina. Following an internship and residency in internal medicine, also in Charleston, he went on to earn a fellowship in gastroenterology from the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University and North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

“I enjoy internal medicine and figuring out complex problems,” Dr. Dorociak says. “I like the mix of surgery and medicine that this field offers.”

After receiving his fellowship in gastroenterology, Dr. Dorociak settled in Charleston and founded Palmetto Digestive Disease PA, a four-physician GI group. In 2004, the Palmetto Endoscopy Center was added.

In keeping with his love of exercise physiology, Dr. Dorociak enjoys long distance running and training as well as cross-country track and field. And he finds that playing the saxophone keeps him in tune with life.

With a young family, Dr. Quaine found Charleston a great fit. She joined Palmetto Digestive Disease in 2011. Dr. Quaine is married and has one young child.
